This week I met with representatives of the family of a 92-year-old woman gunned down in a drug raid [1] in Atlanta, Georgia.
Kathryn Johnston was a 92-year-old woman shot and killed in her Atlanta home in a drug raid last November. Investigators learned that the Atlanta police provided false information to obtain a special warrant to allow the officers to enter the home of Ms. Johnston unannounced. The police pressured an informant to sign a false statement in order to get the "no knock" warrant.
I have joined with a number of my colleagues to seek additional information from the FBI on this case. I am encouraged that the Bureau has begun an investigation, and believe this provides an opportunity to probe more thoroughly into the handling of informants and the use of incentive-based pay that compensates narcotics agents more for each raid they undertake.
We have requested a meeting with the Attorney General on this matter and I will update you on any progress we make.
