When is a lie not a lie?
This is the question posed by Richard Cohen in a good Washington Post op-ed piece earlier this week. I feel this may not have received the attention it deserves, and I wanted to call attention to it. Cohen demonstrate's that the media may hopefully be becoming more critical of the administration's lapses in veracity.
Commenting on the President's admission during the November 8 Press Conference that he did not tell the truth about Rumsfeld's pending dismissal, Cohen explains:
The president had his excuses ready. He lied for the sake of the troops....
In fact -- and this is a fact -- the lie about Rumsfeld was consistent with the White House's political line that everything is just hunky-dory in Iraq and that only Democrats and advocates of same-sex marriage could think otherwise. It would have been inconsistent with the political line for Bush to have admitted doubts about Rumsfeld. It had nothing to do with the troops, who really don't give a damn who the SecDef is, since he is junior to their second lieutenant as far as they are concerned.
In this way, Bush lied about the lie and then, as has become customary, draped an American flag over it: the troops, the troops. Actually, if he cared so much for the troops he would have gotten rid of Rumsfeld months ago.
Cohen elaborated further on the press' reaction to President Bush's press conference performance and its significance to the Democratic Party:
[I]t was downright exhilarating to see Stephanopoulos express shock at Bush's lie, and it would be equally exhilarating if the new Democratic majorities evinced a similar moral indignation. Instead of reassuring the administration's serial fibbers that they will not be required to answer for their statements about Iraq, they should instead be vowing to take apart the ship of state plank by plank until they find the rot -- not impeachment, mind you, just accountability.
This is not a matter of vengeance or, God forfend, politics, but of restoring the people's faith in their government. How dare these people lie to you and me and send Americans to die in Iraq for reasons that turned out to be wholly nonexistent? One way to return to the truth is to find the liars. I ask this not for myself but -- and I mean it -- for the troops.

Dear JC,
Have you even read the comments concerning your "impeachment is off the table" stance? WE DEMAND AN EXPLANATION NOW!

The People Who Put The Dems In Power Are Asking For Impeachment
Is anybody listening.
I have a theory - I can have theories, being ignored.
If doing an investigation about the lies that took us to Iraq, will we discover 9/11 to be an inside job - can we just not do this, believing it would be to difficult for us little people that it has been decided that we will just forget about it - I wonder?????
Why won't we impeach almost the worst president our nation has known. One who is worse than Nixon. Why won't we impeach a president who through deliberate dishonesty has managed to get thousands of our troops killed, created new billionaires bankrupting our nation, ignoring most scientists, over the worlds greatest threat, global warming. On vacation during one of the worst natural disasters that could have been prevented, Katrina, he was on vacation.
He has veto power, he will use it. Fixing the problems aren't going to be any easier while he is in office.
So why won't we impeach him? I wonder?????

Here Here!!!!
I second the motion and urge it be put to a vote. Based on many factors--poll questions made over more than a year, what the Supreme Court said in "Hamdin," The list of laws publicly violated generated by Conyer's and Waxman's investigations, and the recent vote results--we can say that WE THE PEOPLE have made our answer known: Accountability CANNOT occur without impeachment, conviction and removal. It's high time for Congress to catch up with the Public's demands.
I realize that The Watergate Committee's charge wasn't to find articles of impeachment--it couldn't have as it wasn't a House only committee--but that it uncovered the evidence to substantiate articles that might be written. But given what we already know and what we know we're likely to discover, I don't think any responsible adult can say impeachment is off the table--especially Republican's who are honset with themselves. This is fundamentally about Law & Order; and given that fundamental, impeachment should be a rallying point for true patriots, not some sport of partisan issue to be ignored.

When is accountability not ACCOUNTABILITY?
When it is promised but then abandoned in the interests of "unity", that's when.
TeamConyersBlog Update
We've seen many new ConyersBloggers and want to welcome you and invite you to join our general memebership meetings every Saturday at 12:00 Central Time, 1pm Eastern.
For your information about TCB, we started when Congressman Conyers (JC) put up his blog. We helped with the research of his book, "George W. Bush versus the U.S.Constitution". We eventually organized into a web site named "Soapbox4truth.org" and our founding members are now our Board of Directors.
The Board members are: Alma, Feline, Patriot, Reed31463, Rusty and Tahoebasha1. Our board is responsible for making decisions on policy and direction. All committees are headed by a board member.
Until now, TCB and Soapbox have been the same organization, we've been fully and completely supportive of JC and his mission. We worked hard on the elections, worked for him in every way that we could. For some of us, that was sometimes a full-time job. We didn't take it lightly. We wrote thousands of emails and many letter to editors and quite a few of those got published. We've worked on projects, tried to energize others, even been on talk radio promoting JC and H.R.635. We been active on other blogs, as well, such as DailyKos. We've developed a newspaper type format for our site and have a Front Page to which members submit commentaries.
Now that the election is over, we face new challanges and a need to reorient and redefine ourselves. Where do we go from here? What do we hope to accomplish? How can we continue to be the comforting and effective community we've become? How will new members affect our course? And how do we resond to JC's "off the table" statement after we worked so hard to put it ON THE TABLE and how does this affect us?
Our next general membership meeting is Saturday at 12pm Central Time. TeamConyersBlog Click "Login". After login, follow path:
Members (top left) > Soapbox4truth > Chat > Enter
We hope to see you there. It's always interesting, often fun and sometimes exciting! Join us!
PS: When joining, please use the same username as on ConyersBlog so we'll know who you are. Thanks.
Thanks for the invite.
> And how do we resond to JC's "off the table" statement after we worked so hard to put it ON THE TABLE and how does this affect us?
I propose that we keep the "impeachment is ALWAYS ON the table" heat on in all threads.
Does JC ever respond directly to the members here?

JC responds
Yes, he responds, not very often, but enough that we know he reads what we write.
Thanks... but I'll pass on this one.
Dear Patriot:
I have no doubt that Rep Conyers benefited immensely from your groups work, but it appears that it was merely to help the Dems regain control of Congress - nothing more, nothing less.
Unfortunately, I have already had exchange with one of your "Soapbox4truth.org" board members and I have no desire to join your "closed-minded" clique. Not to name names, but I think one of your founding members needs to come in out of the rain and get polished.
Nonetheless, I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors. As for me, I will communicate directly on ConyersBlog and other worthy sites.
The "Jackster" - and proud of it!
Close-minded clique???
Good heavens, compare my writing and opinions with the other board member, whoever he or she may be, and you'll see that we hold totally different opinions! We are diverse and energetic, but never a clique. That's absolutely ridiculous!
And what our work did and will continue to do depends on us, on the direction we choose. We aren't limited to helping JC, although that's what I stressed here in this invitation.
We're at a time of a new begining and are wanting new members and new ideas. That will include supporting JC, but it's not exclusive.
And if you're bummed out at JC, think about who he is and what he's done in the past. Take that forward and have faith in him. He's the best we've got.
A time of new beginning...?
Patriot… my initial thought regarding the closed-minded approach of your SoapBox clique was that it was isolated to only one of your founding members - thanks for rectifying my misconception.
Your most recent posts tend to suggest that you, the SoapBox Chairwomen, are just as closed-minded and mean-spirited as your clique,s editor. How sad for you and for others who are looking for a venue to engage in intelligent and reasoned political discourse.
"In a controversy the instant we feel anger we have already ceased striving for truth, and have begun striving for ourselves." ~ Thomas Carlyle
And while your loyalty may be commendable in some situations, it is sorely misplaced in both Conyers and some of your fellow SoapBox board members.
"Loyalty to petrified opinions never yet broke a chain or freed a human soul." ~ Mark Twain
While it is true that I have no experience with your TeamConyersBlog, your SoapBox4Truth website reveals your board members clique mentality aptly. Now please don,t misinterpret this as an insult, it is offered only as well intended constructive criticism. If you,re in denial, however, there isn,t much you can do - we all realize that brutal honesty is evolutionary.
"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer
It must be extremely painful and disparaging for you to realize that all your hard work and devotion to Rep Conyers was merely so the Democrats could gain a majority in Congress in order that they could pursue their self-serving agenda. For that I extend my sincere sympathy to you and all that believed Conyers campaign lies. To engage in needless and irrelevant blog-bashing, however, merely displays your personal character and as the Chairwoman it risks characterizing your entire group as well ~ albeit some of your members may prefer to speak for themselves.
"The most important ingredient we put into any relationship is not what we say or what we do, but what we are. And if our words and our actions come from superficial human relations techniques (the personality ethic) rather than from our own inner core (the character ethic), others will sense that duplicity. We simply won't be able to create and sustain the foundation necessary for effective interdependence." ~ Stephen Covey
Now please don,t be discouraged; every segment of society has followers and some will supervene merely to satisfy their innate desire to belong - even within a virtual community constructed by self-appointed leaders and autocratic committee rules.
As for me, once again I will decline your membership invitation - but continue to wish you and your fledgling group the best of luck in your future endeavors. It may be wise, however, to discontinue your collective bashing of those you disagree with - it has far more negative consequences for your membership drive than it does for me or anyone personally.
Just remember, "Character is not made in a crisis - it is only exhibited." ~ Robert Freeman
Jackster ~ independent thinker and proud of it!
Re: A time of new beginning?
Oh, Jackster, surely, you are far superior to this mere mortal. Would that I could but stand in your shadow, glean a mere pitance of your vast knowlege of life and the fraility of the human condition. Oh, I seek to find the truths of my character and of those about me that only you can provide.
I beg that you share your links so that I may go and be inspired by your greatness. I yearn to visit your blog or web site and to witness your standing in your own net community which must far outshine and bedazzle my own timid accomplishments. I plead to be allowed to mingle with the least of your followers, to hear from them of your great deeds, brilliant discoveries and unforgettable declarations.
Oh, please, confirm to us your greatness for we yearn for a better example than any we have found before.
Self disclosure...?
Thank you for your sarcastic response. We all learn more about you and the character of SoapBox with each of its chairwoman,s new posts.
Now many of us realize that past behavior is a good predictor of current behavior. So my questions are: have your attempts to belittle and intimidate other bloggers proved beneficial to you and your autocratic board in the past? Or… are you just trying to create a distraction in an attempt to redirect attention away from Mr. Conyers, hypocritical proclamation?
While there is little doubt there are a few that find our recent posts entertaining, I believe the majority of ConyersBloggers find madam chairwoman,s efforts distorted and unbecoming - even for a self proclaimed leader.
On the other hand, you have probably managed to intimidate a few of the new ConyersBloggers who will merely choose to abandon participation on this site and search out alternative forums that are less antagonistic, more open-minded, and focused on a worthy issues.
I repeat, though, I for one will not surrender to your intimidation tactics. So if you continue to engage in your juvenile and derogatory posts, Patriot, I will feel obliged to respond.
If subsequent banter is unacceptable ~ cease with your childishness, or just "ban" me from ConyersBlog (or does that tactic only work on SoapBox?).
Regards ~ Jackster

Cute... Patriot
Does deletion of your previous post mean you surrender? Or are you weary of reading your own words.
Regards ~ Jackster
Deletion
I deleted my comments because they were disrespectful to Congressman Conyers. This is his blog, not mine. This is a place for his constituatants to make contact with him and to share their concerns and to get answers to their questions. They should be free to do so without having to weed through garbage to get to substance.
From now on, I will stick to doing the best I can to support JC. And I apologize to any of JC's real readers whom I may have offended and to JC. It won't happen again.
Apology accepted
I agree that the readers of and contributors to this blog deserve more respect than they were exposed to.
I,m glad to know that you will refrain from further distraction and will resume making more worthy posts here on ConyersBlog.
Best regards ~ Jackster
And apology ...
... only be accepted by those to whom it was offered.
Gee... now I'm disappointed
~ Jackster
Jackster
That "exchange" we had was me pointing out what a pompous jerk you are. We will have more "exchanges" if you do not respect veteran ConyersBloggers.
Jackster, three posts in a row now you have
babbled nonsense about other CB posters and this blog.
1) You don't know ANYTHING about ConyersBlog threads between February 2005 and November 2006, but you spouted your uninformed "opinion" about the length and content of those threads anyway.
2) You ventured a wildly off target guess that my problem with you was that I disagreed with your assertions that JC is being hypocritical.
3) And now, even though you don't know ANYTHING about Soapbox4Truth, you've slandered us as a "close-minded clique."
Congratulations. Your credibility here is already lower than Dick Cheney's.
Are you proud of THAT, too?
...other worthy sites
It just amazes me that you'd denigrate Soapbox4Truth aka TeamConyersBlog. Is insulting the natives part of your upbringing? It's unfortunate that your mother didn't raise you to be a gentleman with manners. They'd come in handy, buster.
Can we please stop this?
Peoples, we need not be attacking each other here! If Jackster had a bad experience, then he has the right to refuse to participate in an event in which he feels unconfortable, but not without slinging foul langauge and slime on this blog by both sides, just because they disagree on something!
Gee whiz...
Patriot... here you go again, displaying your true character by engaging in personal attacks and insulting others. For those who happen to believe your slander, however, it may be enlightening to revisit the previous blog and review "Rusty's" derogitory comments towards me on page seven thereof. In addition, please realize that my post that enraged Rusty was only in response to "Ron's" assertion that the previous blog contained more posts than he had ever seen before. Hardly an insult to anyone and I'm hopeful that Ron understood that. Unfortunately, Rusty appears to have difficulty following complex threads, but that's something he will have to learn to do for himself.
My mother, by the way, is a wonderful person who contrubuted greatly to my self-esteem and taught me not to take everything personally.
"Feelings of worth can flourish only in an atmosphere in which individual differences are appreciated, love is shown openly, mistakes are used for learning, communication is open, rules are flexible, responsibility (matching promise with delivery) is modeled, and honesty is practiced - the kind of atmosphere found in a nurturing family." ~ Virginia Satir
Once again, it might be wise as the Chairwoman of SoapBox to discontinue your self-destructive rampage.
Realize, though, that I will not surrender to your intimidation tactics. So if you and Rusty continue to engage in your juvenile and derogatory posts, I will be obliged to respond.
~ Jackster
P.S. Don't you have something more worthwhile to do with your time?
Off Jackster goes into the wild blue yonder,
playing the martyr high in cyberspace above us all, where the air is very thin and so is his "logic".
,,,
...
And yet another withdrawl...
Patriot, did you have a "board meeting" and decide that your attack on me and others was self-destructive?
I'm proud of ya girl... you finally got it!
~ Jackster
OMFG!!! When will this idiot learn to stop this childishness....
And have a civilized discussion with the others bloggers on the issue in front of us right now?
Jesus christ, Jackster needs to seriously grow up!
Ignore
Ignore Ignore..
and please edit out your posts so they are polite.
My apologies, Patriot, I was making a point, which is...
That either Jackster puts up and shuts up, and ceases his chilsidh games, or we can have the Admin ban him, as he is being quite a threat to the other bloggers, and is turning them off form coming on here, and we do not want that.
If he does not stop this uneeded drama, I will ask the Admin to ban him from this forum, Patriot, as enough is enough!
Not yet...
Rusty, I'm still here - but Patriot seems to have done the intelligent thing and deleted many of her nasty comments.
So it's up to you to continue discrediting yourself all alone.
Have a delusional evening? Oh, come on - you can do better than that - can't you?
God bless ~ Jackster
Sincere apology?
This is twenty minutes after your sincere apology for disrupting the blog with in-fighting. I wish, for Congressman Conyers' sake, that your apology had been sincere.
Rusty... Rusty... Rusty
Of course my apology was sincere… to Patriot and other ConyersBloggers.
Follow the thread Rusty. This response was "to you" and you have not given me or anyone else a reason to apologize… now have you?
All those who have read our banter (laughingly, I hope) are fully aware that it is you who began this derogatory exchange back on the previous blog. Tis you, Rusty, who have engaged in name calling and personal attacks - albeit in a rather neophyte manner.
Your little "spin" and "distort" is never going to work with me… don,t ya get it?
So either discontinue your childish posts and apologize to this forum or bring it on!
Regards ~ Jackster
The only childish person on this blog is YOU, Jackster!!!
By polluting Congressman Conyer's Blog with your filth and hatred against the other members, instead of having a civilized discussion of the issues. You continue to hold a grudge against fellow member because you felt like you were mistreated. Well, that is how some of us are, especially if you annoy them enough!
If you cannot have a civilized discussion here and have to result to insults and personal attacks on this blog against other members, thereby polluting this blog, I suggest you leave here and find someplace else to sprew your mouth!
I've been posting here for a year and half
Jacker, and I've seen conceited jerks like you come and go. But I have never seen one as full shit as you.
Your ultimatum is pathetic.
It must not be easy to thump your chest and pat yourself on the back at the same time, but you've managed to do it.
Give yourself a standing ovation too, I'm sure you're used to doing that several times a day.
New members
Thank you to the new members who joined us in chat in this morning's meeting. We enjoyed having you and hope you will continue to stop in and share your thoughts, ideas and concerns.
Right now, we're taking a well deserved break from a long, long journey to winning back the House and Senate. We are proud of what we've accomplished and we look forward to January when we'll dust off our boots and get back in the saddle.
In the meantime, we'll continue to have our regularly scheduled meetings every Saturday at noon Central time and hope you'll make supporting JC's efforts a regular part of your weekend schedule.
WHEN IS A LIE NOT A LIE?
This is a question America asks of you, Congressman Conyers.
The President LIED to Americans concerning the need to wage a war of aggression. Congress blindly accepted his LIE. And now it seems Congress wills another LIE into existence; It never really mattered.
Here's a LIE, that if repeated often enough, will be believed...
Impeachment will cause chaos among the American moral center.
So, let's have an introspective moment, if you will...
IS THIS ACCEPTABLE...
Have I died and awoke in Wonderland? Is George Orwell writing this nightmarish hell?
To NOT(!) consider any of the above reason enough to Impeach, is to do under our future in exchange of "Get Along" and don't splash in the cest pool of the Country's Congress.
It must be difficult for many in the Halls of Congress to know that they are willingly blind to what the President does. And it must be equally painful to choose that same prescription, NO? Many in Congress argue against Impeachment because they were duped into doing what the President urged them to do, be it craft Legislation, vote for unConstitutional law, grant the power to wage wars of aggression, wire tap, suspension of BASIC RIGHTS, etc. Yes, that's one mighty pill to swallow.
Q U E S T I O N
When is a LIE, no longer a LIE?
Why perpetuate this LIE even after America knows that you're accepting the role of a LIAR?
Did you know that in my community it is a CRIME to sit by and watch people get robbed, raped, or murdered while failing to act. WHY IS THIS ANY DIFFERENT FOR YOU AND CONGRESS?
To allow criminal behavior to exist and accept it's existence as being part of the terror-tory called American Justice, sets the stage for greater crimes to be perpetrated upon our future generations. DID YOU KNOW THAT? DO YOU NOT SEE THAT?
THIS IS NOT ABOUT RETRIBUTION OR REVENGE OR PAY BACK...
THIS IS ABOUT PUTTING A STOP TO INJUSTICE IN THE NAME OF THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT. THIS IS ABOUT SETTING PRECEDENT AND ENFORCEMENT OF THE CONSTITUTION. YOUR OATH OF OFFICE COMPELS FROM YOU AS MUCH. NO?
Re: WHEN IS A LIE NOT A LIE?
Max, wow. That's some statement.
I know everyone's pretty PO'd right now, but personally, I think JC is doing the best that he can with what he has. We need all to calm down and put a little faith in him. He's been a go-getter all these years and he's not suddenly become a lapdog. I don't see that.
Let's give him some time and space. The 110th Congress isn't even in session yet, the Judiciary Committee Chair isn't officially appointed. Who would you rather have there other than JC? Nobody I can thnk of!
I've said this before and I'll say it again: JC is the best we've got. We may not agree with him on everything, but he's second to none. He has earned our respect and continues to deserve it.
Faith?
Are some of the posters here so young they don't remember the faith we exibited during Watergate only to have Congress accept Nixon's pardon with no repercussions? Saddam has been sentenced to death because of his dealings with BushCo during the time of Iran/Contra. We had faith that our elected leaders would prevent us from being victimized by these people again. Look how that turned out. Faith is something we have in God, not man. Men do what they are allowed to get away with. Faith has no place in politics. Listen to what they say, but watch what they do. Then act on it. I have faith that if nothing is done to stop this never ending cycle of abuse, it will continue cycling until a generation of Americans is courageous enough to take them to task. Does a Doctor wait until the cancer is close to the surface before operating? It is easier for us to deal with this situation today than to let it fester until our grandchildren have to deal with it. Our parents were afraid to tackle the problem during their time of opportunity, so we have been subjected to another world war to depopulate the disenfranchised and ensure the world has enough room for the robber barons unfettered greed. Condi Rice was right about one thing when talking about Lebanon. Opportunity is oftentimes masked by tragedy. If we are courageous enough, and don't give up as our fathers did, we have an opportunity to change the world. Like Bush said, everything is on the table. If we aren't willing to use everything, we aren't strong enough to rule America. Why does the GOP have such a loyal following? Because they aren't cowards. Right now the McConnell's of the GOP are threatening to filibuster anything the Dems want unless they get their damage control judges. They aren't afraid to utilize the system, but the Dems are. Faith is something that is earned. Anyone who has faith that our fortunate elected leaders are going to do anything to damage their ability to wield power, is dangerously gullible. Faith is for suckers and devout religious observers. If you know America's history and still try to tell us to have faith in our elected leaders, you can't be trusted. This isn't rocket science, and it isn't like they don't have a track record. Who stood next to Ford as he pardoned Nixon? If we have faith that these same people will do anything that doesn't edify themselves we will have earned the reputation as the dumbest Americans to ever inhabit the planet. Faith? I have faith in God and my muzzleloader. Humans can't be trusted.
Faith or misplaced loyalty?
Good morning Mark, I enjoyed reading your post - points that would be wise for all American's to consider. Thank you!
I suspect that there are indeed some bloggers who are too young to remember, but through thoughtful efforts to enlighten others (like yours) there is at least hope.

Your thoughts, please?
Malcontent (with government and its reign of tyranny)
Remove their plausible deniability.
America likes to pride itself on being a benevolent presence. But the truth of the matter is that if it weren't for the blind eye investor class America turns toward the abuses of the third world, we wouldn't be subjected to the Straussian inspired War of Terror. Impotence and frustration causes the depth of emotion that allows suicide bombers to mentally justify harming others so their families can have a future. Many suicide bombers families get paid by Al-Quaida types, as a reward for giving their lives. If Halliburton wasn't stealing every penny of the reconstruction funds, would we have so many Iraqi's willing to die in order to provide for their families? There hasn't been a truly innocent American born in the last 30 years. We all sit idly by as corporations like Shell send their sleeper cell mercenaries into places like Darfur to ensure the Government stays fractured. As America goes to Church to thank God for giving us so much, we tythe a small portion of our blood money to make us feel pious. What have we learned about the Great Depression? For one thing, everyone didn't lose. The robber baron types who created the record levels that duped the lower caste Americans into investing in their markets, suddenly pulled the rug out from under everyone. After stock brokers lept to their deaths and America descended into depression, the robber barons swooped down and made an incredible profit. Sound familiar? We are presently at record levels on Wall Street. Do I think it's because of the average investor? No. The same robber baron families who got filthy rich as America starved, are actively selling their media conglomerations like Clear Channel, Readers Digest, and the Tribune Publishing Company. What do they need the money for? What happens if average Joe feels they are getting set up for a fall, and sells every stock they own? The robber barons would be forced to invest the money they have ready to buy your failed stocks, into shoring up their own failing companies. Prior to 9/11, many of Bush's biggest financial backers purchased investor insurance "just in case" something happened to deflate their value. They always protect their personal stock portfolios prior to initiating any world wide aggressions. Maybe they let Mr. Conyers and the New Dem majority in on the fact that if the robber barons of Goldman Sachs don't succeed in privatizing Social Security, they'll cause a drop on Wall Street bigger than anything ever seen. Buy high and sell low. We are at the highest levels ever. When dealing with people who keep score based on how high their pile of money is, tracking unusual investment patterns is imperative if we are to prevent them from screwing us into the ground. This is a sham war designed to reallign the world's finances. By treating it seriously, like reinstating the draft would do, it would cause people to conserve. George doesn't want us to conserve for the war effort, does he? Investor class Americans can no longer have their cake and eat it too. Capitalist societies respond most quickly to capitalist responses. If profits are high, the war will last forever. If profits go down, investor class America will rethink their morality and become Christians again. Mr. Conyers can do whatever his conscience dictates. I believe that the cheerleading of the DLC type Dems is a last ditch effort to prevent the GOP from pulling their defense contractor money from the American economy. Archipelago purchased NYSE under the guidance of Goldman Sachs. Goldman Sachs has high level figures in all aspects of Government pushing for privatization. If the Tribune people and the Clear Channel people suddenly take their cash out after the public puts their cash in, it will cause a drastic drop. Once the new investor types flee the markets with 1/4 of their former wealth, the robber barons will swoop down and reinvest as America starves. One thing about the GOP? They don't have much of an imagination. It worked in 1929 when they consolidated the wealth of America into five or six pockets, if we don't keep the public informed of this possibility, they will do it again. George doesn't care. He's an "If I can't have it nobody can" kinda guy. We're tiptoeing through a minefield. Every American of retirement age should divest of their investments while you still can. Why not? We're at record levels. Sell high. For every penny taken out of the markets now, the robber barons will have to replace it from their own pockets. Considering the fact that rich people don't stimulate the economy through senseless spending, poor people do, forcing them to invest in their own companies would give them less disposable income to meddle in foreign affairs. Less money, less meddling. Less meddling, less impotence and frustration. Less impotence and frustration, less suicide bombers. The American investor class likes to parade around as if they are the reason America rose to become the greatest nation Earth has ever seen. If it were left to the investor class we'd all be living in caves thanking them for allowing us to breathe. Remember Katrina? Protect yourself.
Patriot, I have hope that
Patriot,
I have hope that Congressman Conyers follows through on his hard work that he has accomplished over these last few years; Holding Official investigation, inquiries, issuance of necessary subpoenas, the taking of sworn testimonies, and holding all parties involved accountable to the obligatory degree.
My faith comes from a belief in a Higher Power. I pray that John Conyers may find the strength within to do what is necessary. I hope that he has that faith also.
Max, I believe...
... that JC will continue the work he has done. All that he has accomplished could not easily be set aside and forgotten. He's not in his chairmanship yet, the 110th congress has not been seated. The Rethugs are still in power.
We won a great victory. It's not just light at the end of the tunnel, it's the great dawn of a new day.
Take a break, enjoy the sunshine. There's plenty of time to start fretting in the coldness of January.
Then maybe
You can explain what he and Pelosi are saying when they spew "Impeachment is off the table"?
This a ploy? a decoy? if so its a stupid one because there is no reason whatsoever to say Impeachment is off the table and then have the gall to say you are going to do full investigations into rethuglican wrong doings.
Why bother with investigations if it is only for show with zero punishment involved?
Just how stupid do Democrats think we are?
This will not stand.
Honestly,
I don't know what they mean when they say "off the table". I wish I did know.
What I do know is that JC is going to pull us through this. I believe it strongly and deeply. We have to give him the time and the space to do what he has to do.
In the end, I believe there will be accountability. JC's entire life has been about fighting uphill battles. This is just one more.
He doesn't have the Chair appointment yet, the 110th Congress hasn't been seated, the Rethugs are still in charge. Give him some time. If he doesn't do anything about it after the Congress is in session, then let's talk about how to confront him.
Trust me on this... he knows how we feel. He knows very well.
He has until
Feb. for me, then he permanently goes to my shit list.
I hope you are correct.
But I honestly can not see any reason such a statement was ever uttered, it serves no purpose whatsoever but to piss off about 150+ Million Americans.
Then again maybe THAT is the purpose to piss everyone the hell off enough to start demanding impeachment to the point of revolution.
Either way its a bad move.
Bad move?
I really don't understand it either. I hope you'll stick around until February and find out along with the rest of us.
The Rumsfeld Lie was a Stupid Lie
Hello Rep. Conyers,
It has been awhile. Congratulations on your wind-fall re-election. Weren't you Republican target #1? I only wish Nancy Skinner and Tony Trupiano had won their races. Still, they put up a hell of a fight. Hmm, isn't it about time to re-draw a few congressional district borders ala Tom Dealy in Texas?
I was watching Bill Maher on HBO last week. His panel was talking about the Bush 'flip-flop' on Rumsfeld. Maher compared Bush to a 'gansta' who wacks his fall guy as soon as things turn sour. It may have been far smarted to throw Rumy under the bus before the election. Maybe Bush could have saved a few Republican seats that way. It appears our president is sailing without a rudder.
One of my first thoughts after this election is that it is time to kick some Republican ass and pull Bush through the mud like those punks did with Clinton. But, the more I thought about it, the more I agree with this new idea of getting to work for the people. This does not mean we want the Democrats to let these power hungy people off the hook. We still want to see hearings about all sorts of abuses. It just means we need to start solving some very serious problems ASAP.
I posted the following in response to someone who wondered if the Dems will be willing to work with GWB.
"I have been pleasantly suprised with the civil talk coming from Nancy Pelosi, Harry Ried, and even John Conyers. They know we are up to ours ears in problems at home and abroad. The new Dems appear to realize the USA is in a crisis. They need to work with the President if anything is to be accomplished. I wonder if Bush/Cheney will play along?"
BTW - Isn't it about time to dust off the video from those hearings you held down in the basement? I trust 'We the People' would like to see them re-broadcast on CNN, MSNBC, and FOX. Now that would be an efficient use of taxpayer dollars. Don't you agree?
REB 84
Will America Lead?
This Does NOT Work!
After we work with the problems in the White House, as the Democrats were saying, the door will still be open to more Vietnams in the future by Hitler wannabe's. The whole world, which got a better picture of the disaster in Iraq over the controlled media here in the states, after seeing monsters under the Republican party, now look with "I told you so"s, as the Democrats spit not only on the American people, but upon the rest of the world.
What kind of renewed confidence would the rest of the world have in America if they actually saw the American people healing the wounds that were caused by the problems?
What about the "conspiracy theorists" that always deeply concern a very anti-constitutional and propaganda portion of the United States? Should we continue to be tortured by these "theorists" as we escalate the problems day after day?
The process of healing posed by the Democrats is not only not acceptable to the American people, it is not acceptable to the rest of the world who watch in awe and see a new Reich being set up under the American flag.
